The Top 12 SF Artists Most Viewed on Kōsa Press

We’ve been running our Art of Science Fiction series for almost a year now, and with the exciting release this past weekend of Interspecies, Volume 1, The Inlari Sagas, we thought it an interesting exercise to take a look at the most popular SF artists we’ve had on here.

So, sit back and relax. We’ve arranged the twelve most viewed posts below in descending order for your viewing pleasure:

12. Col Price


Col Price is a freelance concept designer and 20-year gaming industry veteran. As an Art Director, he has worked on some of the biggest franchises and his oeuvre includes games like Wipeout fusionBattlefield modern combatMotorstorm Pacific RiftMotorstorm Apocalypse and a ton of F1 games.

11. Allen Wei


Allen Wei is an award-winning concept artist, VFX supervisor and producer, and matte painter working out of Beijing, China.

He has worked as a concept artist on movies like Jupiter Ascending, Turandot, The Monkey King, The Arctic, and many other projects, and as you’ll see soon enough, Allen’s eye for detail and composition is almost supernaturally precise.

10. Fred Augis


Fred Augis is a freelance concept artist from France who has been active in visual design for over 10 years. The list of companies he has worked for is a long one and features big names like Applibot and Arcane Studio and Ubisoft.

9. Isaac Hannaford


Isaac Hannaford is a concept artist and freelance illustrator who has been working in the video game industry since 2003. Having led teams on Bungie’s Destiny and Halo: Reach, it makes sense why this talented artist is so sought after.

8. Syd Mead


Syd Mead is a “visual futurist” and a neo-futuristic concept artist, and a living legend in the industry. He is best known for his designs for science-fiction films such as Blade Runner, Aliens and Tron, but has also done work for Star Trek: The Motion Picture, 2010, Short Circuit, Time Cop, Johnny Mnemonic, Mission Impossible-3, and most recently Elysium starring Jodi Foster and Matt Damon.

7. Richie Mason


Richie Mason is a 3D artist based in the UK. He specializes in creatures, monsters, and robotic imagery, but for the purposes of our showcase, I focussed on his robotic pieces.

6. Mohammad Hossein Attaran


Mohammad Hossein Attaran is a 3D Artist with an amazing talent for developing incredible mechanical concepts and 3D illustrations. He has over 20 years experience as an artist, and for the last six years or so he’s been focussing mainly on his passion which is designing awesome mech concept designs.

5. The Magnificently Dark Piofoks

Piotr Foksowicz, more commonly known as simply Piofoks, is an illustrator and concept artist from Wroclaw City, Poland. As you know by now, Piotr is responsible for that awesome cover of Interspecies.

4. Nicolas Bouvier aka Sparth


Nicolas Bouvier, also known as Sparth, has been an active artistic director and concept designer in the gaming industry since 1996. He is the art director for Halo 5, author of Structura 1, 2 and 3, and has worked on Halo 4, Assassin’s Creed, RAGE, Prince of Persia, AITD4, and created approximately 100 book covers. He lives in Seattle, Washington.

3. Eddie Del Rio


Eddie Del Rio is from San Francisco and works as a concept designer at Lucasfilm, and he is a brilliant artist.

2. Ian McQue


Ian McQue is known as the Pope of concept art. He studied Illustration at Duncan of Jordanstone in Dundee, Scotland and spent a couple of years freelancing before landing an artist position at game developer DMA Design. DMA eventually became Rockstar North and Ian became the Lead Concept Artist and Assistant Art Director. During this time, he worked on the Grand Theft Auto titles.

1. Fred Gambino


Fred Gambino is a freelance concept artist and illustrator from Lea in the United Kingdom. He’s been producing art for over twenty-five years for a variety of media, including film, television, and games.
