Art of Science Fiction 080: Mike Jensen

Mike Jensen hails from Bellevue, USA and is the principal artist at Polyarc Games, and appears to live and breathe digital sculpting. Mike specializes in character art and design, with an obvious flare for digital sculpting, and he’s been in the game industry for about five years. I don’t know much else about him but I’m sure his art will tell you all you need to know.

Below you’ll find a small collection of his work. Each image links back to the gallery of origin. Enjoy!

To provide you with some context, these designs were created for the game, Destinyan online-only first-person shooter developed by Bungie and published by Activision. It’s set in a “mythic science fiction” world 700 years in the future.

The designs are all sharp and sleek. What attracts me is the plausibility factor. I give credit to Mike here because he gives us hi-tech armor suits that seem real enough to function in the present, all due to his sculpting ability and technical know-how.

In our stories, the inlari officers use advanced armored suits, iridescent in appearance. I have yet to find an example but the ones above come close. At least in sleekness and sophistication.

Woelf Dietrich

Woelf Dietrich mostly writes tales of dark fantasy and the supernatural, which is maybe not such a far cry from his lawyering days. Sometimes he writes other things. He resides in New Zealand with his wife and kids and a dog.
