Art of Science Fiction 043: Ryan Church

Ryan Church needs no introduction. He worked on movies like Star Trek, Star Wars: Force Awakens, Transformers 4, Cosmos, John Carter, Real Steel, Tron, Avatar, and a host of other popular big budget movies.

Below is a sampling from his body of work. I’ve included paintings from both his personal portfolio as well as work he did for clients. As is usual, each image links back to the site of origin. Enjoy!

He is best known for the design work he did as a concept design supervisor on George Lucas’s Attack of the ClonesRevenge of the Sith, and the tripods in Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds. He also worked on James Cameron’s Avatar (2009) and updated the design of the USS Enterprise in J. J. Abrams’s Star Trek films.

Woelf Dietrich

Woelf Dietrich mostly writes tales of dark fantasy and the supernatural, which is maybe not such a far cry from his lawyering days. Sometimes he writes other things. He resides in New Zealand with his wife and kids and a dog.
