Colie Wertz is a 3D artist and concept designer at Lucasfilm. He has worked on many films, from Star Wars to Pirates of the Caribbean to Transformers and about two dozen other movies.
About his approach: “I believe in the technique I’m involved, or evolved, in, where thoughts and ideas about how things can exist, function, and look travel from idea to the 3D production canvas very quickly, with great fluidity.”
Below is a small sampling of the artist’s oeuvre. Each image links to the corresponding gallery. Enjoy!
Apart from specialising in 3D design, Colie skilled himself in a variety of other disciplines with an emphasis on hard surface models, environments, and composition and framing for shots. But then, he originally studied Architectural Design, which, if you combine it with an almost total obsession with aeroplanes, resulted in some spectacular design ideas as is obvious from the paintings above.
